Wars and rumours of wars

War ultimately, is futile. We should do everything we can to avoid it because of the damage it does and wreckage left behind. Generations are affected, with countless lives lost, predominantly young lives.

What are the “Causes” and “Cures” for wars?

Wars, quarrels and fights are symptomatic of something else as the bible states.

“Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”

‭‭James‬ ‭4:1-3 NKJV

James is addressing Christians. Us believers. We are not exempted from wars and violence. Even in church, there will be disagreements, quarrels, even within Christian families.

“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17:9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It is from the heart that all things stem from. It is where the craving, the coveting comes from. When we do not get what we want, then from the heart starts to flow forth violence and fights.

We need to guard our hearts and watch it very carefully. We are fallen people with a very sinful nature and it is very important to suppress evil instincts and to put them under control. E.g. A man may have the urge within himself to gamble or commit adultery. But is that the right way to express it? No! It needs to be restrained and inhibited.

Going back to Genesis, lets focus on Adam and Eve.

Straight after the fall and banishment, there was murder. Just one generation of man! Cain killed Abel. He failed to control his jealousy and anger, and killed his brother.

“For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:19‬ ‭NKJV

The things we think of, the things we do. They come from the heart. Try as hard as we may, only God can change the heart. Not education. Not some man-made event or school can do that.

As in the days of Noah, we can expect that towards the end of the world, there will be violence and widespread sin. The world will be full of greed, immorality, disrespect and murder. Things just seem to be getting worse and worse. All these are symptoms and descriptive of the end of age.

You will hear of wars and rumours of wars. (Isn’t that so true? It’s happening all over the world, appearing on the news everyday.) It will happen right up till the end of the world. Only when Christ comes, will He put an end to all things.

Now, we are in a war. Not a physical war, but a spiritual one. One side led by Lucifer with his demons, the other side by Michael and the angels. We may not realise it, but we are already in the midst of it. There is hatred toward Christ and His church (Us).

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

But we can take comfort in the fact that Christ is going to defeat Lucifer, and He will prevail over them all in the end.

“These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭17:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Just thought this was a good and timely reminder for us Christians that our time here on Earth is fleeting and will not last forever. We are like pilgrims passing through a foreign place, and have a job (The Great Commission) to do. Lets make the most of our time here, and keep our eyes focused on what is to come.
